The board welcomes the interest of parents and other members of the school district community and invites them to visit the school buildings and sites and to communicate with school personnel.
1. Visitors to School Buildings
Visitors, which include persons other than employees or students, must notify the principal or his/her designee of their presence in the facility upon arrival and sign in.
An adult visitor is defined as any adult that is not a school employee or currently attending district student who visits school during the school day for an isolated event or attends a school- sponsored activity. The visitor shall not have responsibility for children.
Persons who wish to visit a classroom while school is in session shall make prior arrangements with the school office so class disruption can be minimized. The building principal will make the final decision regarding the time, date, and duration of the visit.
Visitors shall conduct themselves in a manner fitting to their age level and maturity and with mutual respect and consideration for the rights of others while attending school events. Visitors failing to conduct themselves accordingly may be asked to leave the premises.
It shall be the responsibility of employees to report inappropriate conduct. It is the responsibility of the superintendent and principals to take the action necessary to cease the inappropriate conduct. If the superintendent or principals are not available, a school district employee will act to cease the inappropriate conduct.
All student visitors must have prior approval from the building principal.
All visitors during school hours shall wear appropriate badges identifying them as visitors.
2. Communication with School Personnel
In order to ensure effective communication between members of the school community and school personnel, all individuals are expected to use respectful language and tone.
School personnel should generally acknowledge and/or respond to parent/guardian communications within a reasonable time based on the nature of the communication or request. The Board does not expect District employees to respond to email or other communications outside of school hours or during weekends, holidays, or employee leaves of absence when the employee is not otherwise expected to perform duties for the District. Other than where specifically required by law, District employees are not expected to respond to communications that are not reasonably related to student needs or concerns, or that are repetitive, harassing, or vulgar and should promptly report these communications to their supervisor.
If communication between members of the community and school personnel becomes disruptive to the learning environment or orderly operation of the District, it is within the discretion of the Superintendent to limit the channels of communication with that individual. The Superintendent shall ensure the efficient operations of the District while maintaining alternative methods of ongoing communication with the parent/guardian of the student. The decision of the Superintendent in such matters shall be final and not subject to appeal.
